SUMMARY:OS Magic World Cup 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join us in London on Saturday 19th November 2022 for the fourth edition of the World Cup – a weekend celebrating all things great in Old School: community vibes\, sweet brews\, and tasty beers! \n\n\n\nThis is a three-player team tournament\, held to benefit our partner charity LICK (London Inner City Kitties) – a local animal charity. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 10.30am. The event begins at 11.30am sharp. \n\n\n\nFormat: 3-Player Team-Unified Constructed. \n\n\n\nRules: Swedish B&R list. Teams can split playsets between decks. All three decks on a team should combine to make one giant “legal” deck. \n\n\n\nReprint Policy: All non-foil reprints with the original art and frame are permitted (along with the usual art-shift errors – e.g. Plateau and Serendib Efreet in Revised). We do not allow CE/ICE\, artist proofs\, playtest cards\, or proxies. \n\n\n\nEntry: Pre-registration is required for this event. \n\n\n\nAn entry fee of £30 per player will be used to cover venue costs\, unique Old School prizes\, and swag giveaways to all players. All remaining funds after running expenses will be donated to our chosen charity. All entry fees are non-refundable. \n\n\n\nThe World Cup has a soft cap of 24 teams (72 players). In the event of a sell-out\, we will try to accommodate additional players from the wait-list on a first-come\, first-served basis. \n\n\n\nDon’t have a full team yet? No problem. More details to follow. \n\n\n\nOur charity: \n\n\n\nLICK (London Inner City Kitties) works in North-East London to care for unwanted London cats and find them loving homes\, through fostering and re-homing. \n\n\n\nTheir work has become especially invaluable during the past 2.5 years\, with many cats being left homeless due to the economic pressures owners face\, and with many new owners benefitting from adopting a cat to bring them companionship during a difficult time of increased loneliness and anxiety. You can learn more about LICK here. \n\n\n\nAbout our venue: \n\n\n\nThe World Cup will be held at Orford House Social Club\, 73 Orford Road\, Walthamstow\, London\, E17 9QZ. \n\n\n\nThe venue is a short walk from Walthamstow Central tube station\, which is 15 mins from King’s Cross in Central London. \n\n\n\nThere are several nearby hotels and Airbnb options. This Travelodge hotel is a five-minute walk from the venue. \n\n\n\nThe venue has a licensed cash bar\, selling a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Food will also be available throughout the day. No drinks are permitted to be brought in from outside into the venue. \n\n\n\nPrizes: \n\n\n\nThe winning team receive lifelong bragging rights\, joining the World Cup Hall of Fame and will take home the coveted Chris Cooper Trophy – named after the creator and first commissioner of the World Cup. \n\n\n\nAdditional prizes for the spiciest brew and best-dressed team will be awarded on the day! \n\n\n\nDeck Photos: \n\n\n\nDeck photos will be required to be submitted prior to the event – the method for this will be clarified in the days beforehand. \n\n\n\nWarm-Up: \n\n\n\nAs is tradition\, we will be welcoming travelling guests and locals with a special warm-up event on the Friday night\, at a nearby venue. Full details and timings to follow closer to the time. \n\n\n\nThe format of the event will be a first for the Brothers of Fire – a ‘competitive’ Brothers Highlander event\, using the rules of our special 100-card singleton house format. \n\n\n\nMore details can be found here. \n\n\n\nAfter Party: \n\n\n\nAfter the main event finishes\, players are welcome to stay for casual games\, Ante 40K\, more Brothers Highlander\, and to enjoy more fantastic beers at the venue\, which is open till late. \n\n\n\nThere are also many pubs and bars in the area open into the small hours. Central London\, offering some of the most diverse nightlife in the world\, is also just a short tube journey away.

A few things have changed since last. We are all older and wiser now for one. And – perhaps in particular – n00bcon is no longer the World Championship for Oldschool Magic. That Shark has swimmed (swam?) all the way down to Genoa\, Italy\, to be awarded during winc0n in September. So there are no qualification tournaments or things like that which we saw in older days to scramble for the invites. Instead\, n00bcon is now mainly a gathering of old fools\, friends\, and familiar names in the community. I kinda guess it was like that before as well. The main thing now is that participation is somehow even more based on nepotism than before. If you’d like to join\, the easiest way these days is to be a friendly dude with a solid track record in the community.Even though we’re scaling down a bit and the winner wont get to call themselves World Champion\, I presume the tournament will still be brag-worthy. The winner will get a pack-fresh Giant Shark and all that\, and at least they can call themselves n00bcon champion. So bring your A-game fools! We sincerely hope that you will join us even though—or perhaps because—the tournament is online this time. Yes\, the cup will be held at Tolaria.app where you will also register for the tournament and submit your deck pic. Welcome everyone! Also\, join our Discord for questions or to chat with both players and the organizers! The Ivory Cup is Stockholm’s longest running annual old school tournament and is organized by a couple of old local Wak-Wak affiliates. This year will be the 6th year of the tournament. The main idea behind Ivory Cup has been to arrange a larger old school tournament in the Stockholm/Mälardalen area\, but still keeping things quite basic. No crazy gimmicks\, just a bunch of awesome people and all around good times! Well\, we do try to offer a reasonable amount of quality beer. Beer should not be basic. The tournament has nevertheless managed to attract a number of awesome international guest during the years\, and we do hope that both local and foreign old school heroes would like to visit us IRL in the future. Going back to the roots\, this year’s online Ivory Cup will still follow the classic Swedish B&R. That is\, NO reprints outside of Beta and Unlimited. Concerning beverages\, we will put together a list of recommended beers to be enjoyed each round during the tournament. We also hope to arrange a virtual bar where people can relax and chat between rounds\, as that part is what we miss most when not attending real life tournaments nowadays. An Ivory Cup tradition has been to organize a special rules tournament on the night before the main event. However\, having consecutive one day tournaments online seems like a bad idea\, so this years pre-event will be held two weeks earlier on June 5th. Please join us for the Swedish 69 Showdown which also has a more relaxed reprint policy than the main event. More info here. Finally\, there will be a small prize of some sort to someone. But that’s about all we can promise. We’re only in it for the beer and camaraderie!
